When and where to see the eclipse?
The “path of totality” (the zone of complete darkness) will enter through Galicia and exit via the Balearic Islands. Outside this strip, in places such as Madrid or Barcelona, the eclipse will be partial (although still very intense).
- 📅 Key date and time: Sunset on August 12, 2026. Totality will occur approximately between 8:26 pm and 8:32 pm (mainland Spain time), depending on your location.
- ⏳ Duration: Totality will last between 1 and 2 minutes. The longest durations will be in Asturias and along the coast of Lugo, reaching almost 1 minute and 50 seconds.
- 📍 Expert tip: As it happens at sunset, the sun will be very low. It’s essential to look for places with a completely clear WESTERN horizon, with no mountains or buildings blocking the sunset.

Tips to enjoy the eclipse safely
Looking at the sun without protection causes serious damage instantly. Follow these golden rules:
- 🕶️ Eye protection: Always use certified glasses compliant with ISO 12312-2. Forget about X-rays or regular sunglasses.
- 📷🔭 Cameras and binoculars: The solar filter must be placed on the front of the lens, never only in front of your eyes.
- 🐶🐱 Pets: It is recommended to keep them inside the motorhome during the minutes of darkness to prevent them from getting scared or looking at the sun.
